DRDO Announces Good News for Indian Army: Humanoid Robot to Join Combat Operations Soon

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has announced a major advancement toward the development of a humanoid robot designed to support Indian Army personnel in complex military operations, particularly along border areas. The robot is being developed with the specific intent to reduce human involvement in high-risk zones and prevent loss of life during combat.
According to DRDO, the humanoid robot is capable of walking like a human soldier, receiving commands from operators, and executing designated tasks effectively. The project aims to enhance national defence infrastructure by equipping forces with cutting-edge robotic technology that can operate in hazardous environments.
A senior official from DRDO stated that the primary objective behind the development of this humanoid robot is to minimize the need for human soldiers to be physically present in frontline missions, especially in dangerous terrain. “These robots will be able to face enemy fire, conduct surveillance operations, and undertake missions in place of human soldiers,” the official said.
One of the lead engineers working on the project explained, “We are designing the humanoid robot to understand and execute instructions from its operator with precision. The robot’s legs are being developed to walk effectively over challenging landscapes such as forests and rocky terrains.”
Officials noted that the robot has already demonstrated its capabilities in several crucial internal tests. While the system is still under development, DRDO confirmed that efforts are ongoing to improve the robot’s ability to comprehend operator commands and perform complex tasks more efficiently.
The DRDO team aims to complete the project by 2027 and deliver the advanced humanoid robots to the Indian Army. DRDO sources stated that once operational, these humanoid robots will significantly strengthen India's military capabilities. Defence experts believe this development will add a new dimension to the country’s strategic operations.
