Anger, Disbelief, and Some Support: Netizens React to Ceasefire Deal

Following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22, India and Pakistan, amidst heightened military tensions, have agreed to a ceasefire. The Government of India officially announced the ceasefire agreement, sparking widespread online discussion.

Many netizens expressed dissatisfaction with the ceasefire declaration, opining that India should have maintained its aggressive stance until achieving complete victory over Pakistan. The majority voiced their disapproval, arguing that the decision was premature.

Social media platforms were flooded with diverse reactions immediately after the ceasefire news broke. Some users welcomed the move, asserting that avoiding war under any circumstance is essential. However, others described the decision as disappointing and a regressive step. There was also criticism regarding the reported involvement of the United States in brokering the agreement, with some questioning the necessity of external mediation.

A Twitter user named Rudra Raju expressed anguish, stating, “We did not expect this, nor did we think India would bow to American pressure. Pakistan should have been conquered and taught a fitting lesson.”

Another user, Vinod Kaul, remarked, “Pakistan should never be trusted. They must be destroyed.”

A user named Kalpesh wrote, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has lost the trust of the Indian people. I will only vote if Yogi Adityanath is made the Prime Ministerial candidate.” He further criticized Modi, claiming this was the biggest mistake of his life.

Numerous individuals raised questions about the implications of the ceasefire agreement. A Facebook user, Sanjeev Ranjan, asked, “Will this ceasefire lead to permanent peace? Can there be any guarantee that Pakistan will not initiate further infiltrations? Can the government ensure that no more innocent lives will be lost?”

He continued, “Can they prevent a repeat of the Pahalgam incident? Will the wounds of those who lost loved ones ever heal? Will tourists be safe, or will security be limited only to politicians? If the answer to all these is yes, only then will peace be meaningful.”

Another user expressed despair, stating that justice will never be served in India, alleging that even Narendra Modi has failed, and that people can no longer expect anything from any leader in the future.

However, some others welcomed the ceasefire.
