IPL Match Halted Midway to Restart from Scratch
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to replay the Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals from the beginning. This match, which was halted midway on May 8 in Dharamshala due to tensions between India and Pakistan, will now be held afresh on May 24 at Jaipur. The earlier overs played in Dharamshala will not be taken into account.
The match had initially begun at the Dharamshala venue, where Punjab Kings batted for 10.1 overs. At that point, the game was suspended by officials citing security concerns. Normally, in such circumstances, one point is awarded to each team. However, since no points were allocated in this case, confusion arose among fans. The newly released schedule has now brought clarity to the situation.
At the time the match was called off, Punjab Kings were in a strong position, having scored 122 runs for the loss of one wicket. With the match now being restarted from the very first ball, the advantage gained by Punjab Kings has been nullified. This could prove to be a disadvantage for the team. So far, Punjab Kings have played 11 matches and secured 15 points. To qualify for the playoffs, they must win at least one of their remaining three matches.
It is already known that BCCI decided to resume the postponed IPL matches from May 17, following the tensions between India and Pakistan. The remaining league stage matches will be played across six venues: Bengaluru, Jaipur, Delhi, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, and Mumbai. The tournament final is scheduled for June 3. The venues for the playoff matches will be officially announced soon by the BCCI.
According to the finalized schedule, Qualifier 1 will take place on April 29, the Eliminator on April 30, and Qualifier 2 on June 1. However, the BCCI has yet to confirm the venues for these crucial matches. Reports suggest that one of the playoff matches might be held in Mumbai, while the final could take place in Ahmedabad. An official announcement from the BCCI is still awaited on this matter.
