Row over 'Jai Bhim': Court orders police to register FIR against Surya, Jyothika

Chennai: The Saidapet court has directed to register an FIR against Tamil hero Surya. Jai Bheem, starring Surya in the lead role, was released last year and received critical acclaim. However, the controversy over the film has cast a shadow.

Rudra Vanniyar Sena, a caste group, has alleged that Jai Bhim portrayed the Vanniyar castes in an insulting manner. The petition was filed in the Saidapet court to this effect. The court, which heard the petition, directed the Chennai police to register a case against hero Surya and his wife Jyothika and 'Jai Bhim' director TJ Gnanavel.

It may be recalled that Vanniyar caste leaders demanded that the film be banned during the release of ‘Jai Bhim’. The Vanniyar caste also demanded that they remove the objectionable scenes from the film, pay Rs 5 crore in damages and an unconditional apology. Jai Bheem, based on a true story, also went to the Oscars. Surya's performance in this film was applauded by one and all.
