Supreme Court denies bail to Kavitha in Delhi Liquor Policy Case

New Delhi: In the Delhi Liquor Policy case, BRS MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha faced disappointment in the Supreme Court as her petition seeking to quash criminal proceedings against her and for the grant of bail was denied.

The Supreme Court bench remarked that it follows a uniform approach for all petitioners, indicating that it does not favor direct appeals to the Supreme Court for bail. It suggested that for bail, applicants should initially approach the trial court, emphasizing that this procedure applies to everyone.

The bench also referred to previous constitutional violation claims raised by Kavitha, linking them to the Vijay Madan Lal case, stating that it would only consider matters directly related to constitutional violations.

Alongside another related petition, the Supreme Court decided to deliberate on the issues raised. Notices were issued to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) regarding the allegations in the petition, clarifying that the case's merits would not be discussed at this stage. Senior advocate and politician Kapil Sibal represented Kavitha in the Supreme Court.
