Senior IPS Officer Jitender Appointed as Telangana DGP

Senior IPS officer Jitender has been appointed as the Director General of Police (DGP) for Telangana. The government has issued orders to this effect. The current DGP, Ravigupta, has been transferred to the role of Special Secretary of the Home Department. Although the appointment orders for the DGP were expected on Tuesday, they were postponed to today due to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy's visit to Mahabubnagar.

Jitender, a 1992 batch IPS officer, was initially selected for the Andhra Pradesh cadre. He began his career as an ASP in Nirmal, then served as the additional SP in Bellampalli. He also worked as SP in the districts of Mahabubnagar and Guntur. Following this, he served in the Delhi CBI and from 2004 to 2006 in the Greyhounds unit. After his promotion to DIG, he took charge of the Visakhapatnam Range.

Jitender also worked in APPA (Andhra Pradesh Police Academy) for a period, and later continued as the DIG of the Warangal Range. He has held responsibilities in AP CID, the Enquiry Commission, and Vigilance and Enforcement. Additionally, he served as the additional commissioner of traffic in the Hyderabad Commissionerate, and as the additional DIG of the Telangana Peace and Security Department, and DG of Prisons Department. Currently serving as the Principal Secretary of the Home Department, he is set to retire in September 2025. His tenure as DGP is expected to last 14 months.
