Cyclone Fengal Causes Landslides on Tirumala Ghat Road
Cyclone Fengal, which formed in the Bay of Bengal, made landfall between Karaikal and Mahabalipuram last night between 10:30 PM and 11:30 PM. Its impact has caused heavy rains in Tamil Nadu, South Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Rayalaseema regions. The spiritual hub of Tirumala has also witnessed widespread rainfall due to the cyclone, leading to landslides on the second ghat road. The TTD authorities are clearing the debris using JCB machines to ensure uninterrupted traffic flow.
As of now, the cyclone is centered about 120 kilometers southwest of Chennai. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) reports that the system has been moving westward for the past six hours, weakening into a deep depression. Heavy to very heavy rains are expected in Rayalaseema, while South Coastal Andhra Pradesh may experience heavy rainfall due to the cyclone's residual impact.
