Telangana High Court Shocks Ex-MLA Chennamaneni Ramesh

The Telangana High Court has delivered a significant verdict against BRS leader and former Vemulawada MLA Chennamaneni Ramesh, declaring him a German citizen. The court ruled that he contested elections using false documents while retaining his German citizenship. Accusing him of misleading the court for 15 years with fabricated affidavits, the court dismissed his petition.

Additionally, the High Court imposed a fine of ₹30 lakh on Ramesh—₹25 lakh payable to Congress leader Adi Srinivas and ₹5 lakh to the Legal Services Authority, with a one-month deadline for payment.

Congress leader Adi Srinivas had filed a petition challenging Ramesh’s election, asserting that his German citizenship disqualified him from contesting elections in India. In the 2014 Telangana Assembly elections, Ramesh contested from the Vemulawada constituency on a BRS ticket, defeating Srinivas by a margin of 5,000 votes.

Srinivas alleged that Ramesh’s affidavit contained false information and maintained that he was still a German citizen, rendering his election invalid. Despite the ongoing legal proceedings, Ramesh contested and won the 2018 Assembly elections from Vemulawada. With the recent verdict, the court has ruled against Ramesh, bringing the long-standing legal battle to a close.
