Vijayashanti Criticizes Political Exploitation of Sandhya Theatre Tragedy

During the premiere of the highly anticipated movie Pushpa-2, a tragic stampede occurred at Sandhya Theatre in RTC Cross Roads, Hyderabad, resulting in the death of a woman named Revathi and leaving her son in a coma. This incident, which has sparked national outrage, has become a contentious issue in Telangana politics. Opposition parties have criticized the ruling government, while ruling party leaders have issued counter-statements.

In this context, Congress leader Vijayashanti made significant remarks, expressing concern over the incident's broader implications. She stated, “A tragic incident that took place during the release of a film seems to be creating divisions among the otherwise peaceful people of Telangana.” She further noted that the events, press conferences, and emotional reactions over the past two days suggest a growing rift in societal harmony.

Vijayashanti reflected on the spirit of the Telangana movement, which emphasized unity among people from diverse backgrounds. However, she criticized certain political parties for appearing to exploit this situation to deepen divisions among people for their benefit. She alleged that statements from BJP leaders in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh suggest an attempt to politicize the incident for their gain.

Responding to allegations made by BJP central ministers accusing the Telangana Congress government and Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of attempting to destroy the film industry, Vijayashanti condemned such claims as deplorable. She emphasized that the film industry relies on the support of people from all regions and urged all parties to assess the necessity of such confrontations and work towards resolving the issue constructively.
