Amit Shah Launches 'BharatPol' Portal to Crack Down on Fugitives Abroad
In a significant move to curb financial crimes and ensure the repatriation of fugitives who have fled India to evade law enforcement, the Government of India has introduced the 'BharatPol' portal. Union Home Minister Amit Shah officially launched the portal on Tuesday, emphasizing its potential to aid investigative agencies in bringing back criminals hiding abroad.
Amit Shah stated that the 'BharatPol' portal was designed to expedite the investigation of international cases. Until now, coordination with Interpol was handled solely by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on behalf of India. However, with the introduction of BharatPol, all investigative agencies across the country, including police departments from various states, will have direct access to Interpol through the portal.
To ensure smooth implementation, the CBI will be responsible for training state agencies on three key criminal laws related to the portal’s operations, Shah added.
Highlighting the efficiency of the new system, Amit Shah explained that traditional modes of communication, such as letters, emails, and faxes, will be replaced by the faster and more secure BharatPol digital platform. This is expected to enhance the flow of information between CBI and Interpol, significantly improving the coordination process.
