Revanth Reddy Clarifies Comments on Narendra Modi’s Caste
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has responded to criticism from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders and representatives of Backward Classes (BC) organizations regarding his remarks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s caste. Speaking to the media in Delhi after meeting Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Revanth Reddy sought to clarify his statements.
Revanth Reddy stated that he did not personally insult Narendra Modi but merely pointed out that Modi was not born into a BC community. He alleged that because Modi was not a BC by birth, he lacked genuine commitment to the welfare of BC communities. He further claimed that Union Ministers G. Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay distorted his statements.
The Telangana Chief Minister called for a caste-based census at the national level, arguing that if the Prime Minister was truly committed to BC welfare, he should ensure its implementation. He highlighted that Telangana had already conducted a comprehensive caste census, and based on its findings, the government would set up a commission or committee to devise strategies for equitable distribution of welfare benefits.
Revanth Reddy described the caste census conducted in Telangana as a roadmap for the nation, asserting that such an exercise was crucial for advancing public welfare. He reiterated his commitment to implementing Rahul Gandhi’s vision on this issue.
He also clarified that the topic of cabinet expansion was not discussed during his meeting with Rahul Gandhi. Additionally, he announced that the Scheduled Caste (SC) categorization bill would be introduced in the upcoming budget session.
