Close Call: Southwest Airlines Pilot Reacts Quickly to Avoid Collision
A major aviation incident was narrowly avoided at Chicago Midway International Airport on Tuesday morning when a Southwest Airlines flight was forced to abort its landing due to another aircraft crossing the runway. The incident, which was caught on video, has since gone viral on social media.
According to reports, a Southwest Airlines flight from Omaha was preparing to land at Midway International Airport at 8:47 AM on Runway 31C when a Challenger 350 private jet unexpectedly crossed the same runway. The Southwest Airlines pilot, noticing the imminent danger, swiftly decided to abort the landing and took off again, successfully avoiding a collision.
Following the incident, the aircraft safely landed on its second attempt. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has launched an investigation into the matter. Preliminary findings indicate that the pilot of the private jet entered the runway without proper authorization. Officials have stated that a full inquiry is underway, and appropriate actions will be taken based on the findings.
