PM Modi hails UNESCO recognition for Bhagavad Gita and Natya Shastra

India’s revered philosophical text, the Bhagavad Gita, and the ancient treatise on performing arts, Natya Shastra, authored by Bharata Muni, have been officially recognized by UNESCO. These two significant works have been inscribed in the UNESCO Memory of the World Register, marking a historic acknowledgement of India's cultural and intellectual heritage.

Reacting to this development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed joy and termed it a proud moment for every Indian. He shared his views through a post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

“A proud moment for every Indian across the world. The inclusion of the Bhagavad Gita and Natya Shastra in the UNESCO Memory of the World Register is a recognition of our rich cultural and intellectual heritage. These texts have, for centuries, nurtured civilization and consciousness. Their insights continue to inspire the world,” wrote Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his post.

The recognition by UNESCO underscores the enduring global significance of India’s classical knowledge systems and their contributions to civilization over millennia.
