IPL 2025 Resumes May 16, But Mitchell Starc May Not Return for DC

Following the postponement of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 by a week due to heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, several teams are facing adverse consequences. The disruption in the tournament schedule is proving particularly costly for some franchises. After reports emerged about Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) pacer Josh Hazlewood potentially missing the remainder of the season, another major player may also be unavailable.
Delhi Capitals (DC) bowler Mitchell Starc is reportedly reluctant to return to India. According to his manager, who spoke to Australia’s Nine News, there is a possibility that Starc may not rejoin the tournament even if it resumes. The Delhi Capitals management is yet to make an official statement regarding this development. With DC currently placed fifth in the standings with 13 points, Starc's absence could pose significant challenges to the team's playoff aspirations.
Following the suspension of the IPL, top Australian cricketers have already returned to their hometowns. Mitchell Starc, along with his wife Alyssa Healy, has reached Sydney. However, he declined to comment on the matter when approached by local media in Australia. Notably, the Delhi Capitals had acquired Starc for ₹11.75 crore during this season’s auction.
Meanwhile, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), who have already exited the playoff race, may also see further exits. Captain Pat Cummins and opening batter Travis Head are reportedly inclined to remain in Australia in preparation for the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final, scheduled to be held at Lord’s on June 11.
According to sources close to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the IPL is expected to resume on May 16, and the final, initially scheduled for May 25, has been postponed to between May 25 and May 30. This information was reported by NDTV on Sunday.
