IPL 2025: Sunrisers Storm into Playoffs, Lucknow Bow Out After Defeat
In a high-scoring encounter, Sunrisers Hyderabad secured a commanding win over Lucknow Super Giants at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Stadium in Lucknow. Chasing a target of 206 runs, Sunrisers Hyderabad completed the chase with 10 balls to spare, clinching victory by 6 wickets. They reached the target in 18.2 overs, scoring 206 runs for the loss of 4 wickets.

Although Atharva Taide, who replaced Travis Head in the playing XI, was dismissed after scoring just 13 runs, the other Sunrisers batters ensured a smooth path to victory. Abhishek Sharma scored 59, Ishan Kishan added 35, Heinrich Klaasen made 47, and Kamindu Mendis contributed 32 runs. Toward the end, Nitish Kumar Reddy remained unbeaten on 5 runs, hitting the winning runs and sparking celebrations in the Sunrisers' camp.

Among the Lucknow Super Giants bowlers, Digvijay Rathore took 2 wickets, while O. Roorkie and Shardul Thakur claimed a wicket each.

With this defeat, Sunrisers Hyderabad shattered Lucknow Super Giants' hopes of staying in contention for the playoffs. Despite a significant investment, Rishabh Pant failed to make an impact either as a captain or as a player for the Lucknow team. Following this match, the playoff picture in the current IPL season has become clear. Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Punjab Kings, and Mumbai Indians have secured their berths in the playoffs.
