Indian Army Responds to Reports of Weapons at the Golden Temple

The Indian Army has strongly denied media reports claiming that air defence weapons were deployed at the premises of the famed Golden Temple in Amritsar under an operation named “Operation Sindoor” to counter threats from Pakistan. In an official statement, the Indian Army clarified that no such weapons or air defence systems have been stationed within the temple grounds.
“Reports have emerged in the media that air defence guns have been deployed at the Golden Temple. However, no air defence guns or any other weapon systems have been deployed in the premises of the temple,” the Indian Army stated.
These clarifications follow reports quoting a military officer who allegedly said that, based on intelligence inputs regarding possible drone or missile attacks from Pakistan, temple authorities had permitted the Indian Army to deploy weapons in the Golden Temple premises to intercept such threats.
Responding to these claims, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) also issued a statement asserting that it had not granted the Indian Army any such permission to place weapons inside the Golden Temple. The SGPC emphasised its commitment to preserving the sanctity of the holy shrine and urged the public not to believe such misleading reports.
