Covid Panic Resurfaces in Bengaluru; Health Department on Alert

Covid-19 cases have been steadily increasing in Bengaluru over the past several days, raising concerns among health authorities. With a noticeable rise in case numbers over the past 20 days, the Karnataka Health Department has issued an advisory urging the public to follow Covid-19 guidelines and take appropriate precautions.
On Friday, Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao stated, “So far this year, 35 Covid-19 cases have been reported in Karnataka, out of which 32 were recorded in Bengaluru alone.” He added, “Although the number of cases has been gradually rising over the past 20 days, the current situation is not severe. Still, it is important that people adhere to Covid-19 norms as a precaution.”
Dinesh Gundu Rao advised that pregnant women, children, individuals with weakened immune systems, and those with other health issues should wear masks and use hand sanitizers, especially when visiting crowded areas. He further recommended that those with severe respiratory symptoms should get tested for Covid-19 to receive timely treatment and help curb the spread of the virus.
Meanwhile, health department officials confirmed on Friday that a nine-month-old infant in Bengaluru has tested positive for Covid-19. The infection was detected through a rapid antigen test conducted on May 22. The infant, a resident of Hoskote town on the outskirts of Bengaluru, is currently receiving treatment at Vani Vilas Hospital. Authorities reported that the child is not experiencing any serious health complications.
In response to the rising number of Covid-19 cases across the country, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed concern. He noted that countries like Singapore and Hong Kong are witnessing a spike in cases and criticized the central government for not taking adequate steps to screen international travelers. “There is a possibility that Covid-19 cases may rise here as well. Therefore, in light of the increasing cases, the central government must take immediate decisions and implement precautionary measures,” Siddaramaiah urged.
