67 Lakh Students to Receive Aid Under Thalliki Vandanam in AP Today
Amaravati: The coalition government in Andhra Pradesh has moved to fulfill another key promise from its ‘Super Six’ manifesto commitments. On the occasion of completing one year in office, Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu formally to launch the prestigious ‘Thalliki Vandanam’ scheme on today. Under this initiative, direct cash transfers will be made to the bank accounts of mothers of eligible students.

As part of the scheme, the government has resolved to provide ₹15,000 in annual financial assistance for every eligible student in the state. Of this, ₹1,000 is allocated for school toilet maintenance and another ₹1,000 for general school upkeep. The remaining ₹13,000 will be directly credited to the mothers’ bank accounts.

A total of 67,27,164 students across the state are expected to benefit under this scheme. To implement it, the government has released ₹8,745 crore. The scheme applies to all students from Class 1 to the first year of Intermediate, covering all children in a household, as per the government’s clarification.

Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu conducted a high-level review meeting on Wednesday with ministers Nara Lokesh and Payyavula Keshav, along with officials from the relevant departments. He instructed the authorities to ensure that the funds reach the accounts of all eligible students’ mothers without fail. He also directed Finance Minister Payyavula Keshav to ensure there are no funding shortfalls in the implementation process.

The Chief Minister stated that the scheme would also extend to newly enrolled students in Class 1 and the first year of Intermediate during the current academic year. Upon receiving their details, the funds would be credited without delay. He further emphasized that if, due to technical issues, any eligible student’s name is missing from the list, they should still receive benefits promptly upon application.

Compared to the previous ‘Amma Vodi’ scheme implemented by the former YSR Congress Party government, the number of beneficiaries and funds under ‘Thalliki Vandanam’ has significantly increased. Under the ‘Amma Vodi’ scheme’s final phase in 2022–23, ₹6,392 crore was transferred to 42,61,965 mothers of 83,15,341 students. In contrast, the ‘Thalliki Vandanam’ initiative now supports 67,27,164 students—an increase of 24,65,199 beneficiaries.

Minister Nara Lokesh described this as a welcome gift for students’ mothers at the beginning of the academic year. He added that eligible students have already been identified.

The government expressed confidence that the implementation of this scheme would further encourage education in the state. With the coalition government already executing other schemes such as pension hikes, Anna Canteens, Mega DSC, and Deepam-2, the launch of ‘Thalliki Vandanam’ marks the fulfillment of another crucial promise.
