UP fourth phase polls: An acid test for parties as Awadh to decide their fate
Lucknow: The fourth phase of polling in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections will be held on Wednesday. Three phases of polling have been conducted peacefully with all the parties toiling day and night to win the maximum seats. The fourth phase of elections will be held in the Awadh region of the state. There is a belief that the Awadh region will be deciding factor as those who win the maximum seats in the region would form the next government.
In the fourth phase, elections will be held for 60 Assembly seats in nine districts. These districts include Congress party chief Sonia Gandhi's own constituency of Rae Bareli as well as Philibit, represented by Menaka Gandhi's son Varun Gandhi.
The fourth phase of elections will also be held in Lakhimpur Kheri, which is represented by Union Home Minister Ajay Mishra, the father of the accused, who is facing charges of trampling farmers to death with a car. The fourth phase of elections in UP as a whole is highly intriguing.
With a total of 60 seats in the fourth phase, only the Congress and the BSP are contesting in all the seats, while the ruling BJP is contesting in 57 seats and the opposition Samajwadi Party in 58 seats. A total of 624 candidates from 60 seats will be testing their fortune.
