Chicken becomes dearer in Telugu states, Rs 300 per kg

Hyderabad/Amaravati: Chicken prices have risen sharply in both the Telugu states. A kilo of chicken (skinless) is now being sold at Rs.300. A few weeks ago, the price of chicken was less than Rs 200, but now, went up sharply.

Traders, however, say there are several reasons for the rise in chicken prices. It is said that the increase in the feed rate used in the poultry farms and the non-launch of new breeds in the farms have led to the rise in chicken prices. Poultry farmers also claimed that birds are dying due to rising summer temperatures and new breeds are not being produced due to bird flu rumours. However, market sources say that there is not enough supply to meet the demand.

Under normal circumstances, chicken rates fall as summer approaches. Poultry farmers sell the birds before they reach full weight, as they die due to the summer heat. With that, the price of a kilo of chicken used to be between Rs 160 and Rs 180. But this time, the situation is different. Demand increased as poultry production declined. So, the prices went up.
