CM-designate Mann resigns for MP's post, to be sworn in as CM on March 16
Chandigarh (Punjab): The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the common man's party that registered a landslide victory in Punjab Assembly elections, will soon take over the reins of government in the state. It is learnt that AAP MP Bhagwant Singh Mann, the party's CM candidate, met the Punjab Governor to stake a claim to form the government. Bhagwant Singh Mann will be sworn in as Punjab CM on March 16.
In this connection, arrangements are being made for the swearing-in ceremony of the Chief Minister. Bhagwant Singh Mann, who resigned as an MP on Monday. In the 2014 elections, Bhagwant has won the Sangrur Lok Sabha seat as an AAP candidate. He again contested and won the 2019 elections as an AAP nominee from the same seat. He is currently continuing as a member of the Lok Sabha.
In the recent Punjab Assembly elections, a majority of people voted for Mann in a poll conducted by AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal on who would be the CM candidate. With this, while being an MP, Mann contested and won as an MLA from the Dhuri Assembly constituency. He has resigned as an MP as he would be sworn in as the CM.
