AP: BJP, CPI oppose cash payment to beneficiaries instead of supplying ration rice
Vijayawada, April 21: Andhra Pradesh BJP president Somu Veerraju has vehemently opposed payment of cash to beneficiaries instead of supplying ration rice to them. He slammed the state government for taking up survey to implement the Cash Transfer Scheme (CTS) in the state.
Veerraju has faulted the government’s proposal to pay Rs 15 per kilo to a beneficiary when the cost of kg rice is Rs 40. “How the AP government can render justice to people when it is encouraging black marketing,” he asked.
The AP BJP chief further said conducting a survey to know the views of beneficiaries regarding CTS is unscientific. Expressing concern, CPI state secretary Ramakrishna has mentioned that CTS is a threat to food security. “Supplying of ration rice to poor and weaker sections is a welfare scheme and not meant for distributing money,” he explained. He warned to launch state-wide protests if CTS is not withdrawn.
