AP govt in consultation with HC can shift principal seat from Amaravati: Kiren Rijiju
New Delhi, July 22: Responding to a question asked by YSRCP MPs Kotagiri Sridhar and Chinta Anuradha, Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju on Friday said in Lok Sabha that the Government of India had received a proposal from Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy for shifting of principal seat of Andhra Pradesh High Court from Amaravati to Kurnool in February 2020.
The Law Minister said that the AP government can take decision on shifting of principal seat of High Court from Amaravati to Kurnool in consultation with HC Chief Justice (CJ).
However, Kiren made it clear that the state government is responsible for bearing expenditure burden for running the High Court while the CJ has to look after day-to-day administration of the High Court. The AP government and the High Court have to form an opinion on principal seat shifting and send a proposal to the Government of India, he added.
