Nandamuri family opposes YSR name to NTR health varsity
Hyderabad, September 22: Renaming of NTR University of Health Sciences (NTRUHS) as YSR Health University has not gone down well with Nandamuri family. Nandamuri Ramakrishna, son of TDP founder and former Chief Minister N.T. Rama Rao (NTR) strongly opposed the decision of the YSRCP government-led by Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. He said that NTR was instrumental in setting up health university in 1986 to have a uniform policy for all medical colleges in the state.
Ramakrishna recalled that the then political parties have welcomed the decision of NTR to establish health university. Chandrababu Naidu, who was CM in 1996, renamed health varsity as NTRUHS. “Former CM Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy (YSR) expressed his respect towards NTR by including ‘Dr’ before NTRUHS,” he stated.
NTR’s son stated that the YSRCP government disrespected Telugu community be changing the name of varsity. He demanded that the AP government should reverse its decision and continue varsity name as NTRUHS.
