Railway Passengers Can No Longer Board Train at Next Station and Ask for Seat
New Delhi - Indian Railways has announced a new policy that will prevent passengers from boarding a train at a station other than their designated boarding station and asking for their assigned seat.
In the past, railway ticket examiners (TTEs) were provided with a printed list of all reservations for a particular train. This allowed TTEs to wait for passengers who had missed their designated boarding station. However, this policy is no longer in effect.
TTEs now use handheld terminals that are similar to tablets. These terminals are constantly updated with the latest reservation information. If a passenger who has a reservation for a particular station does not board the train at that station, the reservation may be assigned to a waitlisted passenger at the next station.
This new policy means that passengers who wish to board a train at a station other than their designated boarding station must first change their boarding information. To do this, passengers can contact the Indian Railways reservation office or use the IRCTC website or app.
The new policy is intended to improve the efficiency of train operations. It also ensures that waitlisted passengers have a fair chance of getting a seat.
