The Telangana government has announced that tenants are also eligible for the "Gruha Jyothi" scheme, which offers up to 200 units of electricity for free, as clarified by the Southern Telangana Electricity Distribution Company (Discom). This clarification comes in response to rumors circulating on social media, claiming that the scheme does not apply to tenants, which Discom has refuted as false.
It is known that applications for the free electricity scheme were accepted during a public governance program conducted last month. However, the Congress government has not yet released clear guidelines related to this scheme.
It is known that applications for the free electricity scheme were accepted during a public governance program conducted last month. However, the Congress government has not yet released clear guidelines related to this scheme.
Consequently, there has been confusion regarding who is eligible and who is not. In light of various rumors spreading on social media, Discom has made an effort to provide some clarity on this matter. The government has yet to issue guidelines for the free electricity scheme. There are 1.31 crore households with electricity connections in the state, and officials have revealed that 82 lakh applications have been received for the free electricity scheme.
Authorities are currently calculating the number of households that have used up to 200 units of electricity per month last year. Once guidelines for the free electricity scheme are released, there will be clarity on who is eligible and how many people across the state will benefit, officials explained.
