Amaravati: The trend of defections from the ruling YCP to TDP in Andhra Pradesh continues. Recently resigned YCP MLC, Mahmad Iqbal, has joined TDP. Today, he was formally welcomed into the party by TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu, marking his inclusion by draping him with a yellow scarf, a symbolic gesture of joining the party.
Mahmad Iqbal has an interesting background that draws attention. He is a former IPS officer and has previously served as the Chief Security Officer to Chandrababu Naidu. After his tenure as CSO, he joined TDP, and later became an MLC after shifting to YCP.
Iqbal, who had aspirations for the Hindupur Assembly ticket, faced disappointment. Not only was he removed from his position as the in-charge of Hindupur Assembly but he was also not offered any other roles. Since then, Iqbal had been distancing himself from YCP activities.
In this context, he recently resigned from his MLC position in YCP and has now returned to TDP after a significant period.
