YS Sharmila Blames BJP, TDP, and YSRCP for Polavaram Project Failures

Following the release of a white paper by the Andhra Pradesh government on the Polavaram project yesterday, state Congress president Y.S. Sharmila voiced her criticism. She claimed that, similar to the numerous reasons behind Karna's death, the primary culprits behind the Polavaram disaster are the BJP, TDP, and YSRCP.

Sharmila criticized that while the late former Chief Minister YSR had envisioned the Polavaram project to provide irrigation water to 2.8 million acres, political skirmishes have only led to attacks on the lifeline Polavaram. She alleged that during the state bifurcation, the Congress government granted national status to the Polavaram project, but the Modi government showed stepmotherly love and neglected the responsibility of national status by not providing funds for ten years.

"Chandrababu's claim to build the project, which the central government was supposed to construct, was all for show, and he did nothing substantial in the first five years. Jagan, under the guise of reverse tendering, increased the estimated expenditure but achieved nothing. The project, which was supposed to be completed with INR 10,000 crores during the Congress regime, now costs INR 76,000 crores due to negligence.

Chief Minister Chandrababu, who now says it will take another five years to complete the project, holds the reins of the Modi government in his hands. Therefore, the Congress party demands that full funds be secured from the center to complete Polavaram without further financial burden on the state," Sharmila remarked.
