As part of the Prajapalana Vijayotsav celebrations, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy officially launched the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) today. The event, organized by the state's Home Department, saw the establishment of the SDRF under the supervision of the Fire Department, comprising nearly 2,000 personnel. CM Revanth Reddy also inaugurated specialized boats allocated to the SDRF during the event.

The SDRF has been set up to respond effectively to emergencies such as major fires, earthquakes, and floods. Moving forward, fire stations across the state will be transformed into SDRF stations to enhance disaster response capabilities.

The decision to form the SDRF was made following a review conducted by the Chief Minister after the heavy rains during July and August that caused severe flooding in areas like Hyderabad and Khammam. Inspired by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the state decided to establish a similarly well-trained team to tackle natural and man-made disasters.

To support the modernization of the SDRF, the Telangana government has allocated ₹35.03 crore. These funds will be utilized to procure advanced equipment, new fire vehicles, and conduct basic training for SDRF personnel, ensuring they are fully equipped to handle emergency situations.
