KL Rahul Eyes Rare Record Achievable by Neither Sachin Nor Kohli
India and Australia are set to face off in the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), starting on December 26. With the series tied at 1-1 after three matches—one ending in a draw—both teams are determined to secure a win and gain the upper hand.
India’s top-order batter KL Rahul has an opportunity to etch his name into history during this Boxing Day Test. If Rahul scores a century, he will become the first player to register centuries in three consecutive Boxing Day Tests. Previously, Rahul scored 123 runs against South Africa in the 2021 Boxing Day Test at Centurion and followed it with a 101-run knock at the same venue in 2023. However, during his first Boxing Day Test in 2014, also at the MCG, he struggled, scoring just 3 and 1 runs in the two innings.
Rahul has been in decent form during the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, emerging as India’s highest run-scorer with 235 runs in six innings at an average of 47, including two half-centuries and a top score of 84. Across eight Tests this year, Rahul has accumulated 469 runs at an average of 39.08, featuring four fifties and one century.
The Boxing Day Test presents a significant opportunity for KL Rahul to achieve a milestone that even legendary Indian cricketers Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli have not accomplished.
