The Vijayawada Cyber Crime Police have filed a case against Budumuru Nagaraju, a former Ranji cricketer, for allegedly attempting to defraud people by impersonating the personal assistant of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. Nagaraju reportedly sent WhatsApp messages to multiple individuals, requesting funds under the pretext of sponsoring cricket kits for Andhra Pradesh cricketer Ricky Bhui.

Nagaraju is alleged to have used the name of Pendiala Srinivasa Rao, an Assistant Secretary in the State Planning Department, to carry out the fraudulent activities. He sent messages along with a photograph of Srinivasa Rao with the Chief Minister, trying to convince recipients that he was the Chief Minister's personal secretary.

Srinivasa Rao discovered that someone was impersonating him to contact corporate companies for money and subsequently filed a complaint with the Vijayawada Cyber Crime Police on July 3 this year. While a case was registered then, Nagaraju reportedly resumed similar fraudulent activities recently, sending new messages requesting money. Upon noticing these activities again, Srinivasa Rao lodged another complaint with the cyber crime authorities, leading to a fresh case being registered.
