The Chairman of Swachhandhra Corporation, Kommareddi Pattabhiram, lauded Surat’s exceptional sewage water purification system, which treats wastewater to drinking water standards. On Wednesday, Pattabhiram visited sewage treatment plants in Surat, Gujarat, as part of his study on solid and liquid waste management across various states.

Speaking on the occasion, Pattabhiram noted that Surat treats sewage water to drinking standards and supplies it to the textile industry. While this method is implemented in several states, he highlighted that Surat employs a two-stage purification process, delivering water that can even meet drinking water requirements.

The Surat Municipal Corporation processes 1,076 million liters of sewage water daily, according to Pattabhiram. He stated that the Swachhandhra Corporation aims to replicate this model in densely populated cities of Andhra Pradesh. Efforts are underway to purify sewage water through sewage treatment plants (STPs) to supply high-quality water to industries.
