The Telangana Assembly convened a special session on Monday to pay homage to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who passed away recently due to age-related ailments. During the session, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy proposed a resolution recommending that the Central Government confer the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honor, upon Manmohan Singh. The resolution also garnered support from the opposition party Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).

Addressing the Assembly, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy lauded Manmohan Singh’s contributions to the nation, describing him as a visionary who revitalized India’s economy. “Manmohan Singh breathed life into the Indian economy during 1991-96, guiding it towards a path of growth,” he said.

Revanth Reddy highlighted Manmohan Singh's pivotal role as the architect of India’s economic reforms and noted his invaluable service in various capacities, including two consecutive terms as Prime Minister, Union Finance Minister, and Governor of the Reserve Bank of India. He also pointed out Singh’s tenure as Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission, underlining his significant contributions to the nation’s development.

Opposition leader and former minister K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) extended support to the resolution, asserting that Manmohan Singh fully deserves the Bharat Ratna. “We wholeheartedly support this proposal. Manmohan Singh’s contributions to the country are unparalleled,” said KTR.
