Nara Lokesh Launches Pilot Program "Maker Lab on Wheels" in Mangalagiri
To promote awareness among students regarding advanced technological fields such as Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, and the Internet of Things (IoT), the Andhra Pradesh government, in collaboration with leading software firm Infosys, has launched a pilot initiative named "AP Maker Lab on Wheels" in Mangalagiri. The program aims to introduce students to emerging technologies that are transforming the global landscape.
State Minister for Education, IT, and Electronics Nara Lokesh inspected the prototype vehicle at his residence in Undavalli today. The vehicle will initially visit schools in Mangalagiri, educating students as part of a pilot project. Following this phase, similar vehicles will be deployed across various regions of the state.
Minister Nara Lokesh praised Infosys' partnership in this initiative, stating that it is commendable to bring transformative skill opportunities directly to students. He highlighted that the AP Maker Lab on Wheels aligns with the goals of Digital India and ESG Vision 2030 (Environmental, Social, and Governance), offering free digital and STEM learning opportunities to remote areas.
The AP Maker Lab on Wheels initiative is jointly supported by Andhra Pradesh Skill Development Corporation and Infosys. Its primary objective is to provide students with basic skills in fields such as Electronics, Robotics, Microcontrollers, IoT, and Artificial Intelligence.
Each session in the Maker Lab lasts for 90 minutes and includes interactive learning activities. Based on their interests, students can access free courses through the Infosys Springboard platform, which also offers world-class technology certifications. The mobile lab is equipped with advanced infrastructure, including laptops, tablets, workstations, and experiment kits.
Infosys has contributed INR 5 crore towards setting up the bus-based lab and will bear an annual maintenance cost of INR 40 lakh. In addition, Infosys will provide course content, trainer support, and spend an average of INR 1,500 per student for this initiative.
The program aims to reach 4,800 students every three months, with daily awareness sessions planned for four batches of 20 students each, according to Infosys representatives.
Narasaraopet MP Lavu Srikrishnadevarayalu, AP State Skill Development Corporation Managing Director G. Ganesh Kumar, and Infosys staff attended the event.
