Renowned actress and Marathi filmmaker Renu Desai attended a Savitribai Phule birth anniversary event organized by the Bharatiya Chaitanya Yuvajana Party (BCY Party) in Vijayawada today. During the event, she elaborated on the vital role of teachers in society. Desai emphasized that children learn more from their teachers than from their mothers and stated that after mothers, women teachers hold a significant place in a child’s development.

She further shared that she often conveys this perspective to her children Akira and Aadya’s teachers, highlighting that in today’s times, children spend more time with their teachers than with their parents, except during holidays. According to Desai, teachers shape young minds like molding clay, explaining that children who enter schools like unformed clay are refined and nurtured by their teachers.

Desai expressed the view that, in a way, the future of the nation lies in the hands of teachers. She pointed out that young children, who initially know nothing, enter schools and gain knowledge from teachers, eventually becoming engineers, doctors, and leaders. Therefore, Desai stressed, society must recognize the significant responsibility entrusted to teachers.

Speaking about Savitribai Phule, Desai noted that while Phule’s contributions are well-known in Maharashtra, they remain relatively less recognized in other parts of the country. She praised Savitribai for not only opposing British rule but also for fighting against the caste system. Desai explained that Phule began her journey as a teacher and later established a school for girls, making her a pioneer in women’s education.
