Additional Dowry Harassment: In-Laws Allegedly Inject Woman with HIV in Uttar Pradesh

A shocking case of dowry harassment has emerged from Uttar Pradesh, where a woman was allegedly injected with HIV by her in-laws. The incident came to light after the victim's parents filed a complaint, leading to a case being registered in a local court.
According to the woman's father, Sonal Saini married Abhishek, also known as Sachin, on February 15, 2023, in Haridwar, Uttarakhand. At the time of marriage, the bride's family gave a car and ₹15 lakh as dowry. However, after some time, the in-laws allegedly began demanding an additional ₹25 lakh and a Scorpio SUV. When Sonal’s parents refused to meet these demands, she was reportedly thrown out of her marital home.
Following a community intervention, Sonal was sent back to her in-laws' house, but the harassment allegedly continued. She was subjected to both physical and mental abuse. Her father has further accused her in-laws of conspiring to kill her by forcibly injecting her with HIV.
As Sonal's health deteriorated, her parents admitted her to a hospital, where medical tests confirmed that she had contracted HIV. Shocked by the revelation, her parents had her husband Abhishek tested, and his results came back negative. This raised suspicions that her in-laws deliberately administered HIV injections to harm her.
Despite filing a complaint with the police, the victim's family alleged that no immediate action was taken against the accused. They then approached the local court, which directed authorities to register a case. Subsequently, the police filed charges against Sonal's husband Abhishek and his family under sections related to dowry harassment, attempted murder, and assault. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.
