Rohit Sharma May Miss New Zealand Clash Amid Injury Concerns

The Indian cricket team has secured a place in the semifinals of the 2025 Champions Trophy with consecutive victories over Bangladesh and Pakistan. Their final league match is scheduled against New Zealand on March 2. However, Indian captain Rohit Sharma, who suffered a thigh muscle injury during the match against Pakistan, is yet to recover fully.
After a two-day break, the Indian team resumed practice on Wednesday. However, Rohit Sharma reportedly did not participate in batting practice in the nets. Instead, he focused on jogging under the supervision of the strength and conditioning coach and the team physiotherapist, according to a report by The Indian Express.
Given his condition, The Indian Express suggested that the team management might consider resting Rohit Sharma for the upcoming match against New Zealand to avoid any risks ahead of the semifinals on March 4.
If Rohit Sharma is rested, India could include either Rishabh Pant or Washington Sundar in the playing XI against New Zealand. Both players reportedly spent a significant amount of time facing pacers and spinners in the nets on Wednesday.
Additionally, there is speculation regarding India's opening pair for the match. If Rohit Sharma is unavailable, KL Rahul could be promoted to open the innings alongside Shubman Gill.
