Match Abandoned Due to Rain, Australia Advances to Champions Trophy Semifinals
Australia has secured a spot in the semifinals of the Champions Trophy after its match against Afghanistan in Lahore was abandoned due to rain. Afghanistan, batting first, was all out for 273 runs in 50 overs. During the chase, Australia was in a strong position at 109 for 1 in 12.5 overs when rain interrupted play. At that point, Travis Head was batting on 59, while captain Steve Smith was on 19.

Despite efforts to resume play, the rain did not subside, and the match was ultimately called off. With the match abandoned, both teams were awarded one point each. Australia, with a total of four points, secured its place in the semifinals.

Afghanistan still has a slim chance of qualifying. If England defeats South Africa by a massive margin of 207 runs in their upcoming match, South Africa’s net run rate will drop below Afghanistan’s. In that scenario, Afghanistan will advance as the second team from Group B. Meanwhile, England has already been eliminated from the tournament.
