Gunman Shot by Secret Service Near White House
A man armed with a gun caused panic near the White House on Sunday morning, prompting a swift response from the U.S. Secret Service. The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Andrew Dawson from Indiana, was shot and seriously injured after drawing a firearm when approached by agents. He is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital.

According to police, Dawson had reportedly traveled to the White House with the intent to die by police gunfire. The New York Post reported that he was carrying both a gun and a knife at the time of the incident. Secret Service agents spotted him near the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, located a short distance from the West Wing, and attempted to intervene.

Officials revealed that Dawson had previously come to the attention of local law enforcement in Indiana. Before traveling to Washington, D.C., he had allegedly expressed suicidal intentions. Authorities suspect that he deliberately sought a confrontation with law enforcement, aiming to provoke a lethal response.

Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi stated that the shooting occurred when Dawson drew his firearm as agents approached him. No Secret Service personnel were injured in the incident.

Court records indicate that Dawson was arrested in 2018 for possession of marijuana and drug-related paraphernalia.

At the time of the incident, President Donald Trump was at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, according to the Secret Service. The Metropolitan Police Department’s Internal Affairs Division has launched an investigation into the shooting.
