BSF Constable from West Bengal Held by Pakistan After Border Crossing

A soldier of the Border Security Force (BSF) was taken into custody by Pakistan Rangers after he reportedly crossed the international border inadvertently. The incident occurred yesterday afternoon in the Ferozepur sector of Punjab, according to official sources.
The soldier in custody has been identified as Constable P. K. Singh of the 182nd Battalion of the BSF. He hails from the state of West Bengal. While on duty near the India-Pakistan border in Ferozepur, he was reportedly accompanying a group of farmers when he unintentionally crossed the border into Pakistani territory.
Indian Army officials have initiated immediate measures to ensure the safe return of Constable P. K. Singh. As part of these efforts, a flag meeting is being conducted with the Pakistan Rangers. Officials noted that such flag meetings between local commanders are a standard military procedure to resolve unexpected incidents amicably when they occur between the two nations.
Authorities recalled that there have been previous instances of civilians or military personnel inadvertently crossing the border, and such cases were resolved through the same protocol.
Officials confirmed that Constable Singh was in uniform and carrying his service rifle at the time of apprehension. However, in light of past incidents, there is growing concern surrounding the current development. Sources indicated that apprehensions are being raised regarding whether Pakistan might attempt to link this incident to other matters. Negotiations for the soldier’s release are currently underway.
