Sharmila Demands ₹1.5 Lakh Crore for Amaravati, Written Assurance from PM

YS Sharmila, President of the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), strongly criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the construction of the Andhra Pradesh capital Amaravati and the implementation of bifurcation promises. Citing the unfulfilled assurances made in the past, she made a sensational statement that she is sending Amaravati soil as a gift to the Prime Minister.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi garu, will the construction of Amaravati take place this time? Or will it just be soil once again?” YS Sharmila asked pointedly. She alleged that ten years ago, in the name of laying the foundation stone, soil was brought and metaphorically thrown into the mouths of the people of Andhra Pradesh, extinguishing their hopes. She stated that Modi is now arriving again under the pretext of re-inaugurating the capital, and that the gift of Amaravati soil is being sent to remind him of the previous promises.
YS Sharmila advised that every time this soil is seen, people should recall the assurances given during the 2015 foundation ceremony and introspect on the decade-long delay. She demanded that before Prime Minister Modi sets foot on Amaravati’s soil, he should take an oath with this soil as witness, pledging not to deceive the people of Andhra Pradesh again.
She urged the Prime Minister to give a clear and explicit assurance that the people of Andhra Pradesh would not be betrayed once more. Reminding that the construction of the capital is the sole responsibility of the central government as per the Reorganisation Act, she insisted that Modi must commit to this responsibility and provide a written undertaking that he would build a capital grander than Delhi.
YS Sharmila demanded that the central government release ₹1.5 lakh crore unconditionally over a period of three years for the construction of the capital, without burdening the people of the state with debt. She emphasized that the Prime Minister himself must make this announcement. She also stressed the need to grant legal status to Amaravati as the capital. Additionally, she urged Prime Minister Modi to clarify the status of other bifurcation promises that have remained unfulfilled over the past ten years.
