Go back to the roots for holistic lifestyle: Telangana Governor
Hyderabad, June 20: Telangana Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan on Saturday gave a call to the people to go back to our roots and rediscover the holistic lifestyle in order to be in the best of the health.
She said that it was high time that we rediscover our rich, heritage, culture, and food habits to be in sync with nature and protect ourselves and our planet.
Participating as the chief guest in a web- interactive session jointly organized by the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and the Isha Foundation on the topic of “Vision for a holistic lifestyle and natural consumption for future of India and planet,” she recounted that her grandmother used to insist on the washing of hands and legs before entering into the house that is now proving highly relevant in the COVID-19 situation.
“It is better to get modernized but not westernized. We are just counting our currency and not bothered to count the calories. Balance in life is more important than the balance in the bank. If the balance in life is good, automatically the balance in the bank will also improve,” she said.
Emphasizing on the importance of natural consumption, Dr. Soundararajan said that if we need to protect life on earth, we need to protect nature first. “The indiscriminate consumption patterns are wreaking havoc on nature and will make life perilous on earth,” she added.
Quoting a study, she pointed out that when there was more greenery and increased forest cover, there was less crime rate. “The studies showed that with increased greenery people start enjoying the nature and there was a reduction in crime rate to a tune of 15 percent,” she cited.
“Even being a qualified allopathic doctor by profession, I go to my kitchen to seek remedies for small ailments. There are so many herbs and plants that supplement the modern medicine. We need to rediscover our glorious past,” the Governor said.
She lauded the unrelenting efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi due to which the United Nations has declared the 21st June as the International Yoga Day. “The 21st June is the longest day of the year and it symbolizes that Yoga helps to have the longest life,” she said.
The Governor appreciated the efforts of the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and the Isha Foundation for their efforts in promoting holistic lifestyle and natural consumption.
ICC chairman committee member Dr. GBK Rao, Southern council chairman Rajiv Reddy Region Head Naveen Madishetty were part of the interaction.

Yoga is an invaluable part of our rich ancient Indian heritage. Yoga is now popular and is being practiced and promoted all over the world for its immense health benefits.
The regular practice of Yoga helps in the perfect union of body and mind and contributes positively to the physical, mental, and spiritual wellbeing of the practitioners.
The current Covid-19 pandemic situation has once again highlighted the need for better immunity and stressed the importance of the regular practice of Yoga to achieve better immunity levels and prevent infections.
Duly following the theme for the International Yoga Day-2020 is “Yoga at Home” and “Yoga with Family.” I wish you all to practice yoga along with your family members at your home and be safe and healthy."
