Telangana governor calls for greater quality in law education
Hyderabad, Aug 17: Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan on Monday expressed anguish over the increasing pendency in the courts of law. The delay in the disposal of cases is resulting in untold hardship to the litigants.
She emphasised that besides improving the infrastructure and manpower at the courts of law to facilitate the speedy disposal of cases, there must be greater use of technology.
Inaugurating the 10-day online workshop on “Effective teaching, learning and research in Law: Covid-19 challenges” organised by the Dept of Law, Osmania University, here, the Governor said that as the nature of the litigations is changing very fast and one must constantly update the knowledge of the domain.
“It is high time that the traditional law colleges must update their curriculum and methodology in order to compete with the prestigious national law schools that are attracting the talented youngsters,” Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan added.
The increase in cyber crimes and issues like cyber bullying, hacking, digital character assassination and cyber stalking are resulting in depression among the younger generation. We must address these issues on a priority basis, the Governor said.
Referring to the 100-year old Law department in Osmania University, she said that it has produced many an eminent jurists, advocates, administrators, leaders, teachers and legal luminaries, Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan exhorted the faculty to continue the great tradition and set high standards in the legal education.
Constant updating of the syllabus, technology-driven education, case laws, inclusion of cyber laws, intellectual property laws and addressing current issues are the need of the hour in legal education.
The Governor appreciated the Law College in initiating the 10-day long online workshop akin to 10days Dasara celebrations to re-strategise their teaching, learning and research methodologies during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Governor exhorts probationary IPS officers to care for common people:
Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan on Monday exhorted the probationary IPS officers to give top priority in attending to the grievances of the common people.
“Building confidence about the people-friendly policing is key in winning the peoples support and confidence in maintaining law and order at the grassroots level,” she said.
The Governor was interacting with five probationary IPS officers, who are being trained at RBVRR Telangana State Police Academy, here, through a video conference from the Raj Bhavan, here.
Stating that the criminals are misusing the technologies to perpetrate crimes of different kinds on the cyber domain and are exploiting innocent people, she suggested that the police get more tech-savvy and possess advanced technologies to prevent such crimes.
Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan stressed on the importance of maintaining composure and respecting the constitutional rights of different sections of the people while discharging duties with utmost commitment and dedication.
She also advised the young IPS officers to regularly practice yoga and meditation regularly to overcome the job related stress and assiduously balance the job life and family life. She asked them to interact with the students, especially those studying in government schools, to motivate and inspire them to dream and achieve big. The Governor likened the IPS officers as the captains of internal security and lauded the police role in maintaining peace within the country.
Highlighting the challenges from different quarters like extremists, militants, mafia, and other anti-social elements, Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan exhorted the IPS officers to take the lead to ensure the best possible internal peace so as to facilitate progress and prosperity.
She lauded the achievement of the young IPS probationary officers and stated that they made their family, State and Country proud through their selection into the prestigious Indian Police Service.
