- Uber launches operations in Tirupati, enters 90th Indian city
- Uber’s service offerings in the city will include Uber Auto, Uber Premier and Uber Rentals
The launch marks Uber’s presence in its 90th Indian city and makes Tirupati the third city in Andhra Pradesh, along with Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada, where Uber has a presence.
Uber’s launch in Tirupati is in line with the company’s ‘India to Bharat’ strategy to increase its footprint and product offerings to regional markets, thereby realising its vision of providing doorstep pickups, safe and contactless payments, all at affordable prices.
As millions of Indians begin moving again, along with pilgrims and tourists travelling to Tirupati for the famous Tirumala Darshan, Uber aims to offer convenient pick-ups, hassle-free rides, and digital payment options at a touch of a button through its Auto and Premier service. Uber Rentals on the other hand, will allow riders to book affordable multi-hour, multi-stop options along their journey, giving them greater flexibility, just as they would with their own car.
Uber’s range of services will also provide its community of driver-partners improved earnings and optimum utilization of their time, resulting in financial independence and the economic revival of communities.
Commenting on the launch, Subodh Sangwan, General Manager, East and South India, Uber, said, “We are thrilled to launch our operations in Tirupati with our much-loved Uber Auto, Premier and Rentals products that will provide mobility solutions to millions of tourists and pilgrims travelling to the city. We want to create magical experiences for our riders by offering efficient, convenient and affordable transportation options at the touch of a button, along with creating livelihood opportunities for those who sign up as driver partners. We understand safety is a priority and all rides will conform to health guidelines, with the goal of making travel safer in the new normal.”
Safety remains a top priority and over the last few months, Uber has made substantial investments to procure safety supplies for drivers and implemented innovative technology-driven solutions to help riders and drivers feel safer while on a trip. These include a comprehensive set of safety measures, such as the Go Online Checklist, a mandatory mask policy for both riders and drivers, pre-trip mask verification selfies for drivers and riders, and mandatory driver education on safety SOPs.
The company has also updated its cancellation policy allowing both riders and drivers to cancel trips if they don’t feel safe, driving a shared sense of responsibility for everyone using the platform.
