HDB Financial Services installs Clean Drinking Water Plants in Andhra Pradesh
Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, 20th December 2021: As a part of its Clean Drinking Water Program, HDB Financial Services in association with its CSR partner Bala Vikasa Social Services Society installed Community Water Purification Plants in East Godavari and Guntur districts of Andhra Pradesh.
Through this partnership, HDB has facilitated installation of 63 community water purification plants. The plants have been responsibly installed in fluoride-affected districts of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana with over 20,000 households now having access to safe drinking water within their communities.
To ensure sustainability, each household in the community pay a nominal one-time user registration fee to access clean drinking water at an affordable rate of Rs 5 for 20L. Each community water plant is managed by Water User Committee, a democratically elected group of seven members from the community. The Committee members are adequately trained by partner organization to manage day-to-day operations of the community water purification plant. All plants installed till date, have been transferred to respective communities.
Speaking on the initiative Mohan Vamsi Palem, Zonal Manager HDB Financial Services said, “Consumption of fluoride-affected water causes health disorders resulting in an increase in medical expenses. HDB has identified lack of clean drinking water as a key concern for the rural and peri-urban communities in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Our collaboration with Bala Vikasa will strengthen our efforts to provide clean drinking water to the marginalized communities and also contribute towards building a healthier community.”
From installing community water purification plants to laying down of pipe water supply systems, HDB Financial Services’ Clean Drinking Water Program is committed to address the problem of water availability, accessibility and affordability in under-served communities. Till date, HDB Financial Services has supported Clean Drinking Water Programs in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra.
