CJI directs registry to list Vundavalli’s petition on AP bifurcation for next week hearing
The petition filed by former Congress MP Vundavalli Arun Kumar on Friday came up for hearing before the Bench led by CJI N.V. Ramana in the Supreme Court. Initially, he had filed the petition questioning the legality of combined Andhra Pradesh bifurcation. Later, he submitted another petition with modifications seeking the SC to direct the Centre to issue guidelines for bifurcation of states in the future.
Prominent lawyer Prashant Bhushan has represented Arun Kumar in the apex court. He informed the top court that the petition was filed several years ago and quoted the recent speech of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh in SC. The bench agreed with the argument of Prashant Bhushan and assured to hear the petition.
The CJI instructed registry to list the petition for next week hearing. On several occasions, Vundavalli had stated that all opposition parties when Congress-led UPA government was in power have opposed AP bifurcation.
