One lakh acres in Telangana will submerge with Polavaram backwater: Rajat Kumar
Hyderabad, July 20: Special Chief Secretary (Irrigation) Rajat Kumar on Wednesday said that one lakh acres in Telangana will submerge with backwater from the Polavaram Project.
“Even, backwater would pose threat to historical sites and also to Bhadrachalam, temple town, and Parnasala,” he stated and added that the Telangana government had sent reports to the Central government on several occasions urging to study the impact of Polavaram backwater. “So far, the Centre did not respond to our reports,” he mentioned.
Rajat Kumar refuted comments made by Opposition political parties on Kadem and Kaleshwaram projects. They are talking without any proof, he added and said that construction of irrigation projects is taken up after getting nod from 18 institutions.
The official clarified that Rs 20 to 25 crore is enough to repair pump houses submerged in recent floods but not Rs 400 crore as estimated by some analysts. “Pump houses will be ready by September,” he said.
