Supreme Court to Hear Kavitha's Petition Against ED Summons Today
Today, the Supreme Court is set to hear a petition filed by BRS MLC Kavitha Kalvakuntla, who has challenged the summons issued to her by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the Delhi liquor scam. Last year, Kavitha filed this petition, expressing her objection to being summoned by the ED as a woman, and requested the Supreme Court to issue orders preventing any preemptive actions by the ED against her. The bench comprising Justice Bela M Trivedi and Justice Pankaj Mittal will hear the petition.
On another note, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has also issued notices to Kavitha under section 41A of the CRPC in the same scam, changing her status from a witness to an accused. This has led to increased speculation about Kavitha being trapped in the case. However, citing pre-scheduled engagements, Kavitha informed the CBI that she could not attend the interrogation. She argued in her letter that the notice under section 41A contradicts the earlier notice under section 160, claiming it infringes upon her democratic and constitutional rights.
