America’s Vice President is Andhra’s Son-in-Law!
In the U.S. presidential election, Republican Party candidate Donald Trump’s victory appears nearly confirmed, setting him up to assume the presidency of the superpower for a second term. The Republican Party has already announced J.D. Vance as their vice-presidential candidate. In his recent victory speech, Trump also showered praise on Vance.
Notably, Vice President J.D. Vance is married into a Telugu family. His wife, Usha, is of Telugu descent, with family ties to Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. Usha Chilukuri is the granddaughter of Professor Shantamma, who until recently taught at Andhra University in Visakhapatnam. This makes Andhra Pradesh’s own son-in-law the new Vice President of the United States.
Professor Shantamma, now in her 90s, continues to teach and conduct research. She is well-known in the Telugu academic community, having worked as a Telugu language professor. Her late husband, Chilukuri Subrahmanyashastri, passed away some years ago. Usha Chilukuri is the daughter of Radha Krishna, who is the son of Subrahmanyashastri’s brother, Ramashastri.
Shantamma shared that Usha's parents moved to the United States long ago, and Usha was born and raised there, so she has limited contact with her family in India. After learning of Vance’s candidacy and the family connection, Shantamma received many congratulatory calls from friends and family.
