On the occasion of Indian Constitution Day, Andhra Pradesh Congress President Y.S. Sharmila conducted a padayatra in Vijayawada today. Speaking to the media, she criticized the lack of freedom for minorities in states like Uttar Pradesh and Manipur. She alleged that the violence against minorities in these regions stems from a conspiracy by Prime Minister Modi and RSS ideologues to undermine secularism in the country.

Sharmila claimed that the BJP is enforcing its own version of the Constitution in the country. She said, “The Constitution advocates equality, but the BJP is a party that does not implement it.”

She further alleged, “All the wealth in the country is concentrated in the hands of a few, and all businesses are controlled by those aligned with them. Adani, being one of their own, has been elevated to unprecedented heights within ten years. Regardless of the crimes he commits, there are no investigations or arrests. Even when agencies like the FBI or America itself present evidence proving Adani’s guilt, no inquiry is initiated. This is the kind of Constitution BJP follows.”

Discussing social justice, Sharmila said, “Our Constitution advocates social justice, but BJP and RSS do not see Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), Backward Classes (BCs), and minorities as human beings. They only see them as vote machines to be exploited during elections. Despite repeated demands by Congress for justice to these communities and for conducting a caste census, the BJP has taken no steps in this direction. This is due to the BJP's distorted interpretation of the Constitution.”

Sharmila emphasized Congress’s stance, saying, “We, along with our leader Rahul Gandhi, have been demanding a caste census. Welfare schemes, job opportunities, and political representation for every caste and community can only be clarified through a caste census.”
